Why Cultural Gaps Aren’t the Real Problem
Lost in Translation: It’s not what we say—or don’t say—but how deeply we’re willing to connect that defines success across borders.
Bridging Minds Through Understanding
Recently, I had what one might call a job interview. Though at my age (60), these conversations are far from traditional. I no longer face young, ambitious recruiters dissecting my résumé. Instead, I engage in meaningful talks with like-minded individuals—young or seasoned—who understand what truly needs to be done. These discussions are not about titles or formalities; they’re about forging genuine connections, often over a good meal and an even better glass of wine. Deals are sealed with a handshake, and the paperwork follows later.
These moments of connection, however, are shaped by cultural subtleties. Having lived and worked across various environments, I’ve realized how my giftedness helps me navigate the unspoken complexities of human interaction. “Words are important, but what’s left unsaid often speaks the loudest.” Understanding these nuances is critical when bridging gaps between vastly different cultural landscapes.
Consider the contrast between South American and Norwegian cultures. In South America, communication is passionate, direct, and rooted in familial warmth. Norwegians, on the other hand, tend to be polite but reserved, often hesitant to express enthusiasm or speak openly. To some, this distance can feel cold. But beneath these cultural differences lies a universal truth: we all long for connection and authenticity.
This is where the potential of giftedness becomes transformative. By deeply understanding behaviors and their origins, we can bring people closer, fostering empathy and trust. Giftedness, when embraced, becomes a bridge—a tool for seeing beyond the surface. It allows us to navigate the delicate balance between passion and restraint, warmth and formality, directness and subtlety.
Ultimately, we all come from the same source—a place of unconditional love, integrity, and authenticity. While life’s experiences often obscure this connection, it is never truly lost.
The question is: can we find it again? And more importantly, will we have the courage to reveal it? In bridging minds and cultures, this rediscovery becomes not just possible—but profoundly transformative.
My clients are exceptionally talented professionals who don’t need more knowledge, courses, books, or templates. They are ready to cross the bridge with someone who has been there and back—someone who can reach the core of who they are and the extraordinary gifts they offer, with ease and grace, in just a week or two.
